What is Triethyl Citrate?
Triethyl Citrate is a plant-derived ingredient made from citric acid, which naturally occurs in citrus fruits like lemons and oranges. It is commonly used in cosmetics and natural personal care products to help stabilize fragrances and improve product performance.
Do you test your products on animals?
No, we are committed to cruelty-free practices, never testing on animals at any stage.
Are your soap bars exactly 5oz?
Unlike mass-produced soaps that are perfectly machine molded, artisan soap is cut from large blocks. This means each bar may be slightly different in shape and weight — part of the charm of true handcrafted soap.
Why do you use sodium hydroxide in your soap? Isn’t that lye — and isn’t lye dangerous?
Sodium hydroxide (also known as lye) is essential in traditional soapmaking. It reacts with oils in a process called saponification. When the soap is fully cured, there is no lye remaining — only soap and naturally formed glycerin.
Every true bar soap in the world is made with sodium hydroxide. Without it, it’s not soap.
How is your soap different from store-bought ‘soap’?
Many commercial “soaps” are actually synthetic detergent bars that remove natural glycerin and replace it with fillers. Our soap is traditionally handcrafted, retains its natural glycerin, and is made in small batches for quality and integrity.
Are your soaps pH balanced for skin?
Our soaps are made using traditional cold-process methods. During curing, the soap becomes mild, skin-compatible, and gentle for daily use. Human skin is naturally resilient and adapts well to true soap, especially when the formula includes nourishing oils and retained glycerin.
How long is the curing process, and why does it matter?

Curing allows excess water to evaporate and ensures the saponification process is fully complete. This results in a harder, longer-lasting bar that produces a better lather and feels milder on the skin.
Do your soaps contain synthetic detergents or hidden surfactants?
Earthlings Made soaps are true soap — not synthetic detergent bars. We do not use SLS, SLES, synthetic foaming agents, or lab-created surfactants. Our lather comes purely from the natural reaction between plant-based oils and sodium hydroxide during saponification.
Do your fragrances contain endocrine disruptors or phthalates?
Our essential oil blends and fragrance oils (when used) are phthalate-free and selected with safety and skin compatibility in mind. We avoid known endocrine-disrupting additives and unnecessary synthetic stabilizers.
